BOAO HAINAN ISLAND HOSPITAL

BOAO CITY, QIONGHAI, HAINAN CHINA

HHCP’s design catalyst for the Boao Hospital is linked to DNA’s molecular structure. This idea was used abstractly in creating both the master plan and building layouts, and became the design inspiration for the pedestrian bridges that link between.

This world class hospital complex currently called “GenEden” specializes in anti-aging, health rejuvenation, and sports med¬icine. The two phased expansion includes a Specialty Hospital in phase one, and a Maternity & Postnatal Complex in phase two. There are six primary buildings proposed for the buildout of the project, with the phase one Specialty Hospital being the most prominent, and the featured building design within the master plan. The Specialty Hospital is programmed to be seven floors above a ground level basement, with the upper six levels of the building to be set above a horizontal cloud podium. This curvilinear sculpted form of mir¬rored molecular membrane allows visitors to visually interact with it as they walk beneath it and observe the breakdown of their own reflection.

HHCP’s design was strongly driven by the client provided criteria, including the project opera¬tional goals, building program content, architectural design desires, development phasing intent, and overall guests care philosophy. These factors were all appro¬priately balanced and exhibited in the resulting concept design and master plan vision, achieving a unified design, while providing a distinctively appealing building identity that incorporates state-of-the-art energy conservation strategies for supporting a sustainable design.
