SUNRAIL - CENTRAL FLORIDA COMMUTER RAIL TRANSIT

ORLANDO, FL

HHCP is the design Architect for the 17 commuter rail stations for the proposed Central Florida Commuter Rail project, now known as “SunRail”. The 61 mile corridor will utilize the existing CSX Transportation A-Line railroad track linking Deland, FL to Poinciana, FL. HHCP worked closely with representatives from each stakeholder community, regarding all special requirements for their respective station platforms and canopies. HHCP developed a prototypical canopy with a “traditional local character” design that was adopted by many of the communities, while a refined, curved contemporary prototype design was selected by others. The City of Orlando chose to integrate the typical SunRail traditional canopy design with the existing Church Street Station canopy system. The canopy linked South Street to Church Street along the SunRail corridor in downtown Orlando. Stations for Winter Park, Lynx Central Station, Orlando Health and the City of Kissimmee were designed as special custom stations integrated with the architectural vocabulary of adjacent rail or bus stations.
