FLOWOOD, MS

2009 Eagle Award - Excellence in Construction

Patient Tower Addition

Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc.

To better serve the medical needs of its surrounding community, River Oaks Hospital has begun a multi-phased master plan of their existing campus by using a “Build Around” expansion approach. Reflecting its growth and expanded purpose, the hospital is currently undergoing a new image and transformations to blend with each successive expansion.

The first phase of construction was a four-story, 144,800 SF private Patient Bed Tower and 19,112 SF of covered parking. This phase, which opened late 2010, increased the licensed beds at the hospital from 108 to a total of 167 beds. The second phase, an 11,000 SF Emergency Department and a 1,750 SF ED Imaging Suite, was recently completed at the hospital.

Located within the first floor of the patient bed tower are a 5,000 SF Surgeons’ Lounge and 6,000 SF of shell space for build-out of miscellaneous services. Proposed services within the floor include a Physical Therapy Unit and an additional outpatient services admissions department with interview stations, waiting areas and work stations. Future additions and renovations will incorporate a centralized main lobby and drop-off canopies located around the hospital’s perimeter.

Women’s Services are located on the second and third floors. A Level II NICU with 19 infant care rooms, a mini-surgical suite expansion of three operating rooms, PACU, sterile core, ancillary services, and shell space for three additional OR’s and outpatient services are on the second floor. The third floor houses OB/GYN services, five ante-partum rooms, 12 postpartum rooms and a 24-bassinet Well Baby Nursery. Future plans include a renovating the Woman’s Services Department in the existing hospital which is connected to the patient tower.

The fourth floor is comprised of a Medical/Surgical Unit and related support services with approximately half of the patient rooms complete. When the shell space for additional patient rooms are built out, it will bring the hospital’s licensed bed count to 191 within the current Master Plan.
