Sunbelt Living Center is a not-for-profit, 120-bed skilled nursing center owned and operated by Adventist Health System.

Planned and designed with a nod to Florida architectural vernacular, HHCP created two 60-bed “villages”, each supporting three 20-bed “neighborhoods”. This same design was site adapted for the 120-bed Sunbelt Living Center in East Orlando, Florida, completed in 1999.

Neighborhoods are clustered around a “village center” where all nursing support areas are located. Each neighborhood includes eight semi-private and four private resident rooms. Private rooms have direct access to outdoor patios through glass doors.

The two 60-bed units are connected by a centralized core or “village center” containing a physical therapy suite, administrative offices and the main foyer and lobby/reception area. At the end of the large lobby is a wing that houses the dietary operations and mechanical/electrical rooms.

Landmark mantels at the entrance to each skilled nursing unit display unique floral arrangements or artwork that enhances wayfinding. Closable niches below the mantels provide storage for wheelchairs. Soiled and clean linen holding rooms are centralized in each “neighborhood” to minimize staff travel distance and enhance operational efficiency.
