UCF BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES BUILDINGS

ORLANDO, FL

The Biological Sciences Building Renovation and Annex at the University of Central Florida is a four-story, 110,800 SF advanced research and teaching laboratory.

HHCP was the lead design firm for the renovation and expansion of this four-story (plus basement), 57,400 square foot biological sciences building at UCF. New HVAC systems and piped services will be provided while the building remains occupied during construction. Careful logistical scheduling by the construction manager has been required to move labs and existing functions, renovate and then reoccupy. Faculty offices, graduate teaching assistant workstations, teaching labs, research labs, teaching classrooms, chemical storage, environmental rooms and freezers, greenhouse and electron microscopy areas are being provided.

The new 53,400 square foot addition will serve as a state-of-the-art research laboratory facility for the UCF departments of biology, micro and molecular biology and the University’s drug institute. Biosafety level 1, 2 and 3 laboratories will be served by a support core, housing prep rooms, autoclave, environmental room, incubator, shared equipment room, supply storage and shaker room.
